It is basically a use is or lose it setup.

That said, when you look at the 12 month budget, you will see how much you are over/under for the entire year at the left. See my grocery example.

0 http://m.getsatisfaction.com/topics/7361057/replies/18263518 http://m.getsatisfaction.com/topics/7361057 18263518 drench56 responded to "Quicken for mac 2017: How do I rollover budget categories each month?" 2016-12-31T14:23:30Z 2016-12-31T14:23:30Z drench56 http://m.getsatisfaction.com/people/4179955 https://www.gravatar.com/avatar/b4b88e8507896e1e91d2e3c724a649cc?d=identicon&s=55&r=PG drench56 Does anyone know if there is a post wherein we can vote for a new feature to be added for modifying rollover amounts (and actually rolling over budget categories each month)? This is a major functionality issue for me that likely will be forcing me to use QWin again... 0 http://m.getsatisfaction.com/topics/7361057/replies/18263678 http://m.getsatisfaction.com/topics/7361057 18263678 Doug Bergen responded to "Quicken for mac 2017: How do I rollover budget categories each month?" 2016-12-31T16:25:25Z 2016-12-31T16:25:25Z Doug Bergen http://m.getsatisfaction.com/people/5722060 https://www.gravatar.com/avatar/361c6e75a7e5cdd11e8856a53ee0777b?d=identicon&s=55&r=PG drbergen Agree this is a major issue and needs to be addressed to help us former Quicken Windows users. 0 http://m.getsatisfaction.com/topics/7361057/replies/18265108 http://m.getsatisfaction.com/topics/7361057 18265108 drench56 responded to "Quicken for mac 2017: How do I rollover budget categories each month?" 2017-01-01T18:33:38Z 2017-01-01T18:33:38Z drench56 http://m.getsatisfaction.com/people/4179955 https://www.gravatar.com/avatar/b4b88e8507896e1e91d2e3c724a649cc?d=identicon&s=55&r=PG drench56 As an aside, here is the workaround I'm using to setup correct rollover amounts for my budgeting purposes (very much a non-ideal solution, but it's something - note that it requires you to do some labor at the start of each calendar year):

Create a cash account called "Rollover Modifications"

Figure out the amount of rollover in each relevant budget category that you want to track (we did this by using our Quicken Windows with its rollover functionality to determine the correct amount for the beginning of 2017)

Put in a single transaction in the Rollover Modifications for each budget category that is an amount equal to the rollover you want (a deposit if you have a positive rollover, an expenditure if you have a negative rollover), and set it to January 1 of the year you're budgeting for.

Note that you'll need to hide the Rollover Modifications account whenever you want to know about your true net worth (since the transactions are effectively fakes). Hiding them will remove their effect on the budget though, so make sure to un-hide them after you've seen your net worth value.

Also, note that these rollover transactions will need to have their dates changed at the start of each new calendar year, as it looks like Quicken defaults to comparing your current values to the start of the calendar year values (so a rollover transaction dated at the beginning of 2017 won't have any effect on your 2018 budget unless it is changed to be a 1/1/2018 transaction). 0 http://m.getsatisfaction.com/topics/7361057/replies/18392859 http://m.getsatisfaction.com/topics/7361057 18392859 cygnl7 responded to "Quicken for mac 2017: How do I rollover budget categories each month?" 2017-02-04T21:23:16Z 2017-02-04T21:23:16Z cygnl7 http://m.getsatisfaction.com/people/464119 https://www.gravatar.com/avatar/f24c455e1c7e564d2de26740c4e31b90?d=identicon&s=55&r=PG cygnl7 I take a similar approach to @drench56 except I don't like having to hide/show the special account. Instead I make a cash transaction out of the account against the category on 12/31 of the previous year and then make a cash transaction back into the account for the category on 1/1 for the current year.

For example, if I had an extra $200 in a category called "Shopping" that needed to roll over from 2016 to 2017 I would:

Create a transaction with the Payee of "Cash" for -$200 on 12/31/2016.

Create a transaction with the Payee of "Cash" for $200 on 1/1/2017.

This has the nice effect of showing that category as zeroed out for the previous year, as well, which is a reflection of what is truly happening. 0 http://m.getsatisfaction.com/topics/7361057/replies/19638444 http://m.getsatisfaction.com/topics/7361057 19638444 smayer97 (QM2007, CDN user since '92) responded to "Quicken for mac 2017: How do I rollover budget categories each month?" 2018-07-14T06:56:49Z 2018-07-14T06:56:49Z smayer97 (QM2007, CDN user since '92) http://m.getsatisfaction.com/people/533043 https://d2r1vs3d9006ap.cloudfront.net/public/uploaded_images/10911408/imgres-2_medium.jpg smayer97 You can add your VOTE to Add Rollover option for budgets.

First, click on the underlined link above to go there, then click VOTE at the top of THAT page, so your will vote count for THIS feature and increase its visibility to the developers by seeking to have the features you need or desire end up in the latest version.

While you are at it, you may want to add your VOTE to related IDEAS found on the
List of Requests Related to Budgets. Click on the underlined link, then follow the instructions to add your vote to more related ideas. Your VOTES matter!

(If you find this reply helpful, please be sure to click "Like", so others will know, thanks.) 0
