I have a 401K as does my wife. Whenever I reconcile my quarterly statements, only my 401K adds income in the year to date report. My wife's 401K does not do that.. When I click on the entry in the report the amount does not match the details. This has been going on for a long time and new versions never solve this. Can anyone help me figure this out so that this stops happening? problem active 9 4 1 comment http://m.getsatisfaction.com/topics/7734158/replies/19517869 http://m.getsatisfaction.com/topics/7734158 19517869 UKR responded to "Quicken adds income to report when I reconcile my 401K" 2018-05-11T21:25:36Z 2018-05-11T21:25:36Z UKR http://m.getsatisfaction.com/people/8342865 https://d2r1vs3d9006ap.cloudfront.net/public/uploaded_images/11231531/Gartenzwerg2_medium.bmp ukr_8027544
Which report are you looking at?

Is it possible that either the account or one or more of the categories used in your wife's account are marked as hidden?
0 http://m.getsatisfaction.com/topics/7734158/replies/19517882 http://m.getsatisfaction.com/topics/7734158 19517882 Paul Spannuth responded to "Quicken adds income to report when I reconcile my 401K" 2018-05-11T21:30:43Z 2018-05-11T21:30:43Z Paul Spannuth http://m.getsatisfaction.com/people/8506053 https://www.gravatar.com/avatar/34c6755299615ca5386f627c32bd7435?d=identicon&s=55&r=PG pspannuth As I said in the first post, I am looking at the Year to Date report. I must add thought, that when I look at the Comparative Income vs expense report, that entry into income is not shown. In is only in the Year to Date report. I don't think that anything showing hidden in my wife's account is the issue. It is troubling that when I click on the entry in puts in income, it shown my contributions as the detail but that does not even come close to matching what is shown as income. 0 http://m.getsatisfaction.com/topics/7734158/replies/19529735 http://m.getsatisfaction.com/topics/7734158/replies/19517882 19529735 Tom Young responded to "Quicken adds income to report when I reconcile my 401K" 2018-05-17T23:42:02Z 2018-05-17T23:42:02Z Tom Young http://m.getsatisfaction.com/people/2733890 https://www.gravatar.com/avatar/2f7d7b618c13a56c7c6106bc1d993b75?d=identicon&s=55&r=PG tom_young_2448816 There is no report titled "Year to Date." "Year to date" defines a time period - beginning of year to "today" - and any report that's available in Quicken can use that time period, or any other. If you click on "Report" and then hover over each report type - Banking, Comparison, Investment, etc. - you'll see that "Year to date" simply doesn't exist as a report.
So, exactly what report are you using?
With any Quicken report that you use you can customize the report to include or exclude any given Account in Quicken. So my first guess would be that whatever report you're looking at INCLUDES your 401(k) as an Account that's feeding the report information and EXCLUDES your wife's 401(k). In the report itself have you clicked on "Customize Report" (the gearwheel) and then "Accounts" to see if that's in fact the case? 0 http://m.getsatisfaction.com/topics/7734158/replies/19529737 http://m.getsatisfaction.com/topics/7734158/replies/19517882 19529737 Tom Young responded to "Quicken adds income to report when I reconcile my 401K" 2018-05-17T23:44:03Z 2018-05-17T23:44:03Z Tom Young http://m.getsatisfaction.com/people/2733890 https://www.gravatar.com/avatar/2f7d7b618c13a56c7c6106bc1d993b75?d=identicon&s=55&r=PG tom_young_2448816 There is no report titled "Year to Date." "Year to date" defines a time period - beginning of year to "today" - and any report that's available in Quicken can use that time period, or any other. I did customize a year to date report a long time ago (I have used Quicken since 1995) from that spending report. When I open the customization window, the "Organization" window says that is income and expense. I have it set on showing monthly numbers so there are 3 columns for each month-Actual, Budget, Difference. I want to include my 401K accounts and have them both included in this report. So my question is why does Quicken show an income entry whenever I do my 401K quarterly account reconciliation which I do off of my quarterly statement but it does not do that with my wife's 401K? One interesting thing, if I look at another report that says it is "Income and Expense by Category" it does not show the budgeted amount only the actual and it does NOT show an income entry when I reconcile my 401K.

Please help!
0 http://m.getsatisfaction.com/topics/7734158/replies/19530747 http://m.getsatisfaction.com/topics/7734158/replies/19517882 19530747 Tom Young responded to "Quicken adds income to report when I reconcile my 401K" 2018-05-18T14:18:45Z 2018-05-18T14:18:45Z Tom Young http://m.getsatisfaction.com/people/2733890 https://www.gravatar.com/avatar/2f7d7b618c13a56c7c6106bc1d993b75?d=identicon&s=55&r=PG tom_young_2448816 "I have it set on showing monthly numbers so there are 3 columns for each month-Actual, Budget, Difference."
That sounds like the report you get to when you click Reports > Spending > Current Budget. So apparently that's the report you customized and saved.

If you are completely certain that both your and your wife's 401(k) Accounts are "feeding" the report and you're using the same Category or Categories for income in both Accounts, then the next thing to try is to start anew and click on Reports > Spending > Current Budget, customize the report and save it using a slightly different name then your currently saved report. I've experienced situations after upgrading - I assume you're not still using the 1995 Quicken version - where reports saved in earlier versions, for whatever reason, just don't work.
The "Income and Expense by Category" report simply isn't designed to pick up budgeted amounts, it only deals with actual amounts. This report, too, should show income from both 401(k) Accounts if the Accounts are specifically designated as Accounts to be included in the report and the Category or Categories you use when you enter income into these Accounts is/are also designated as Categories to be displayed in the report. 0 http://m.getsatisfaction.com/topics/7734158/replies/19530800 http://m.getsatisfaction.com/topics/7734158/replies/19517882 19530800 Paul Spannuth responded to "Quicken adds income to report when I reconcile my 401K" 2018-05-18T14:38:41Z 2018-05-18T14:38:41Z Paul Spannuth http://m.getsatisfaction.com/people/8506053 https://www.gravatar.com/avatar/34c6755299615ca5386f627c32bd7435?d=identicon&s=55&r=PG pspannuth Only my 401K shows the income when updating the accounts quarterly, not my wife's. Both 401ks show any increase in value in the 401K account,. Neither one should show any income in the budget reports. I am using Quicken 2018. This problem has existed over about the last three versions of Quicken.
