Because they have not pulled 10.11 yet, you will not be able to reinstall and get 9.34. It will automatically update to 10.11 during the install. E. LONG time user; investor; no problems UNTIL 10.11; freezing problems when trying to update (including multiple old back-ups) .

I had started to follow the same path to use R9 but changed direction and focused on selective fixing the data file focusing on fixing two reported errors that I suspected might be fatal ones. Specifically:

1) Ten transactions were linked to accounts that were no longer in Quicken. Quicken had changed them to indicate that the account was deleted. I went back and linked to a Dummy account that I set up.

2) There were 25 security transactions with prices dated in the future (1/1/2038). I deleted those prices.

3) Three stock transactions that had been incorrectly categorized as a realized gain. I went back and re-entered those transactions.

After fixing those errors in the validated file, I still had “errors” reported when I validated again (mostly historical stock split dates) but the update freezing problem went away.

Hope the above provides some clues.

0 19646078 David Turner responded to "R10.11 update" 2018-07-18T11:55:27Z 2018-07-18T11:55:27Z David Turner david_turner_i68gyxgfb6au5 Added comment: For several years, I was plagued by the same "Investment/checking account transfer lost link problem" as John Adams. My belief is that those links get dropped if a person does file actions like performing a year-end copy and ALL of the transactions in both the Investment and Bank Accounts are not in the same "state" of cleared/reconciled.

My work-around solution was to implement a "buffer-dummy account" for the cash transfers. Having a buffer-dummy account enables me to easily make modifications/corrections - a kluge, I admit, but it works for me. 0 19646263 John Adams responded to "R10.11 update" 2018-07-18T13:45:12Z 2018-07-18T13:45:12Z John Adams johncadams I am having the exact same problems as you per my validation log. Sock prices dated in the future 2038, transactions inked to an investment account that is no longer active, stock prices incorrectly categorized and historical stock split date errors. To me this would suggest there is something within Quicken that is generating the "corruption." Why would you have and I have security transactions dated in the future (1/1/2038) same as you? Why would my other corruption problems be the same as yours? Kathryn's explanation of why - repeated shutdowns, etc. does not necessarily ring true unless coincidental. 0 19646492 David Turner responded to "R10.11 update" 2018-07-18T15:24:20Z 2018-07-18T15:24:20Z David Turner david_turner_i68gyxgfb6au5 I agree and believe there is a combination of historical Quicken gremlins and some situational conflicts that result in data base errors. In general these are common situations which are treated consistently, but erroneously by Quicken, creating data base errors. These data base errors can cause problems, particularly with new releases.

My thoughts on some of the specifics:
- Historical Reconciled checking account transactions are excluded/dropped when outside the specified date range when performing “end of year” file back-ups. However, ALL investment transactions remain. This causes the problem of “missing accounts” My work-around is to create a Dummy-Buffer account and double- enter the cash transfers thru the Dummy.

- Stock split date difference are caused by the difference between Effective Dates and Settlement Dates that can be reported. I generally ignore this difference and the validation report mentions this difference as a caution, so it can generally be ignored.

- I have seen the 1/1/2038 issue before, and believe that Quicken “picks” this date when there is an abnormal computer shut-down. Not an issue UNTIL there is an Q update. Currently, I just remove those dates/prices.

- Stock price/transactions incorrectly categorized- I have no reasonable theory on this one, but it is “correctable” be re-entering the transaction (select the transaction, chooses edit and then enter - you don’t have to re-enter all the info)

The above is provided in the interest of open communication. Noclaims on the above being 100% effective in all situations. 2 19646536 John Adams responded to "R10.11 update" 2018-07-18T15:50:29Z 2018-07-18T15:50:29Z John Adams johncadams Many thanks for your taking time to explain the gremlins within Quicken and your method of repairs. I would venture to guess if all long time users of Quicken validated their Quicken data file - many of the same problems would surface.
